Overview
This statement outlines the steps Firemind has taken, and continues to take, to understand and minimise the potential risk of modern slavery within its business and supply chains. It is published in line with Section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
What is Modern Slavery?
Modern Slavery refers to the offences outlined in the Modern Slavery Act:
- Slavery, servitude, and forced or compulsory labour
- Human trafficking
These offences are set out in Sections 1 and 2 of the Act.
About Firemind
Firemind provides cloud consultancy to a wide range of businesses. As a partner of Amazon Web Services (AWS), we help support cloud infrastructure and best practices for a diverse set of customers. We maintain strong relationships between employers, employees, and partners, which are fundamental to our business success.
Our Commitment to the Principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015
Firemind is committed to the abolition of modern slavery and human trafficking. As an equal opportunities employer, we ensure a non-discriminatory and respectful working environment. Our staff are empowered to report wrongdoing without fear of reprisal.
Our recruitment and people management processes are designed to:
- Ensure all employees are legally entitled to work in the UK.
- Protect employees from abuse or coercion.
We do not engage with any organisation that supports or participates in slavery, servitude, or forced labour.
Our Supply Chain
Due to the nature of our business, we assess the risk of modern slavery within our supply chains to be very low. We primarily produce digital products and services, relying on a limited range of UK and overseas suppliers, mainly through UK government frameworks.
AWS, our direct partner, has published its own statement on slavery and human trafficking, which includes governance, responsibility, and audit results.
Policies Related to the Modern Slavery Act 2015
The following policies are available to all Firemind staff through the company handbook and intranet:
- Code of Conduct
- Ethics Policy
- Whistleblowing Policy
- Bullying and Harassment Policy
- Diversity and Inclusion Policy
- Recruitment and Selection Policy
Embedding the Principles
We will continue to embed the principles of the Modern Slavery Act by:
- Providing awareness training to staff on how to identify and report modern slavery.
- Ensuring staff involved in procurement follow government modern slavery procurement guidance.
- Including modern slavery risk considerations in our policy review process.
- Incorporating references to modern slavery in Firemind and AWS procurement strategies and contracts.
- Enforcing a zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery.
- Training staff involved in recruitment, procurement, and deployment on ethical employment practices.
Risk Assessment & Management
As a partner of AWS, we rely on their services and digital products. We monitor AWS’s internal operations to ensure alignment with our own anti-slavery commitments.
When outsourcing work to external contractors, we ensure thorough vetting to confirm that workers are fairly compensated and free from any form of constraint.
