Q&A

Welcome Adam to the Firemind team! It’s great to have you with us. For our viewers, could you please tell us a little about yourself and your professional background?

Hello! I started my professional career as a door-to-door salesman for a few months before ending up as an Estate Agent for several years. During that time, I started learning Python and playing around with some Machine Learning. I enjoyed it enough to quit my job and go to University at 30.

After getting my Masters, I began my data career as a Developer on SQL Servers before moving into cloud data platforms, where I have been working at an AWS Consultancy as a Data Engineer for almost two years.

How did you find out about us and what made you decide to apply for a role with Firemind?

I was originally approached by one of the Managing Directors, over LinkedIn, and between him and their CTO, I was convinced that Firemind would be an exciting place to work with lots of interesting projects, due to its speciality in Generative AI.

What is your role at Firemind?

I’m a newly appointed Data Engineer.

Which areas of our business interested you the most?

The Generative AI work Firemind is involved in. It’s been all the talk this year, but I haven’t yet seen it used in a business use case. In the short time I’ve been here, it’s become clear that Firemind are heavily involved with a lot of projects going on. Although it’s not my expertise, it’s interesting to see and hear about.

What will be your main goals/objectives whilst working at Firemind?

It sounds cliché but I’m a big one for personal development, so my goals for Firemind are around how I can improve as a Data Engineer.

Which aspects of your role are you most excited about?

Right now, I’m most looking forward to getting stuck into the role and getting going on some projects.

Outside of work, what do you get up to? Tell us about your hobbies.

I live on the coast and try and get on the water every weekend. Now that summer is over, I’ll be out surfing or kitesurfing whenever there are waves or wind. I also love DnD and play every Friday evening.

If you could only choose one dish to eat every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fried rice, so many good variations!

What is at the top of your bucket list?

We’re currently planning a trip for next year to go freediving with whales. It’s been at the top for a while and hopefully it’ll be a reality soon.

What is one skill you would really love to learn?

Magic, but I lack the dexterity for the sleight of hand tricks.

How do you wind down after work?

Now it’s getting dark I normally settle down and play a board game with my wife.
